Pairline is a browser extension that adds lightweight second-language annotations close beneath the original text on webpages. This policy describes what the extension actually does. It is written to match the code that ships.

What is processed, and where
Page text. When you turn Pairline on for a page, text from that page is read inside your browser and passed to the browser's local translation capability. It is not uploaded to Pairline.
Settings. Your display mode, source language and target language are stored locally in your browser (chrome.storage.local).
Translation cache. Translations you have already received are cached locally to avoid repeated work. The cache has a fixed size limit and is pruned automatically. You can clear it by removing the extension.
Language models. If a language pair is not yet available, Chrome may download a local language model on your device. This download and the model lifecycle are managed by your browser.
What Pairline does not do
- No advertising profile and no advertising identifiers.
- No sale or sharing of user data.
- No collection of passwords or credentials.
- No collection of form data you type.
- No automated posting, commenting, voting or liking on any site.
- No reading of browsing history for profiling.
Permissions and why they are needed
Pairline asks for the smallest set of permissions that still lets it work automatically where you expect it to:
- storage — to save your settings and the local translation cache on your device.
- activeTab — when you click the Pairline icon on a page, this lets Pairline act on that tab without any standing access to your browsing.
- scripting — to place the reading script on a page you have allowed.
- offscreen — to keep Chrome's local translation model session available inside the extension's own offscreen document.
- Access to reddit.com — Reddit is the one site Pairline is enhanced for, so it runs there automatically without an extra click.
- Optional access to other websites — Pairline requests access to other sites one site at a time, only after you choose to enable it there. You can revoke any site at any time in Chrome's extension settings.
Pairline does not request access to every website at install time, and it does not read pages you have not enabled it on.
About this website
This website counts page views so we can see how many people visit it. The count is first-party and cookieless: our own server records the date, the page, and the country reported by the network, plus a one-day identifier derived from your IP address and browser, which is used only to count unique visitors for that day. No IP address is stored, no cookies are set, and the identifier cannot be linked across days. This applies to the website only — the extension described above does not report anything. The browser extension itself does not transmit usage analytics, visited URLs, page text, or browsing activity to Pairline.
Third parties
Pairline 0.1.8 does not integrate any third-party translation service, analytics service or advertising network. Website traffic counting is done on our own infrastructure, described above. Websites you visit remain governed by their own policies.
Children
Pairline is a general-purpose reading tool and is not directed at children.
Changes
If a future version changes what is processed or where, this policy will be updated before that version is released.
