Frequently asked questions
Short answers about what Pairline is and what it does today.
What is Pairline?
Pairline is a Chrome extension that helps you learn a language while you read the webpages you already use. It shows a translation line under the original sentences so the meaning stays in context.
Is Pairline a translator?
Not in the usual sense. It does not replace the page with another language. The original text stays where it is, and the second line is there to help you understand it.
How does the translation work?
Pairline uses Chrome's built-in, on-device translation. Page text is read in your browser. It is not uploaded to Pairline, and there is no Pairline translation server.
Do I need an account?
No. There is no sign-up, no account and no user database. Your settings and translation cache stay on your device.
Which websites are supported?
Reddit has enhanced support today, including feeds and comment threads. Generic reading pages work in beta, and compatibility can vary by site. If a page does not work, please tell us.
Which languages are available?
The website and the extension interface are available in English, Chinese, Japanese, Spanish, Portuguese, Korean, German and French. Translation support depends on the languages your browser provides.
Does it cost anything?
Pairline is in public beta and free while it develops. If a paid plan is added later, the goal is to keep it affordable — but no pricing is decided or shown today.
